Facelift vs Mid Facelift vs Mini-Facelift: What’s the Difference?

Facelift vs Mid Facelift vs Mini-Facelift: What’s the Difference?

Facial rejuvenation is truly individualized and the procedures need to be customized and tailored to suit your individual concerns and cosmetic goals. Depending on your anatomy, your desires, and your facial aging, you may benefit from one of the three most common procedures.  Gawley Plastic Surgery emphasizes natural, long-lasting results that consider not just one feature of your facial anatomy, but all aspects of facial rejuvenation.

What is a mini facelift?

There are several different variations of the mini facelift procedure. Typically, the incisions are shorter with your mini facelift compared to the traditional full facelift. This is why it is also referred to as the ‘short scar’ facelift procedure. The mini facelift will not lift the entire facial area as it is limited only to the area around your cheeks. It can be combined with other procedures like brow lifts or eyelid surgery for a more complete/balanced facial rejuvenation.

The mini facelift procedure is the best option for achieving subtler results than what you could get with the full facelift and the typical patient is below the age of 50. No two patients are exactly alike. If you are looking to target mild to moderate skin laxity, then the mini facelift may be your best option. A consultation with one of our surgeons can help determine whether you are an ideal candidate for a mini facelift procedure.

What is a mid-facelift?

The mid-facelift is a surgery that is specifically focused on repositioning the cheek prominence (or fat pad) back into a more youthful position resulting in a more refreshed, rejuvenated look.  In doing so, it often makes improvements around the lower eye, cheek, and nasolabial folds.  The surgery involves a small cut inside the mouth and a second small incision in the temporal hair, both of which are completely concealed once healed.  Results are more permanent than those offered by injectables and recovery from a mid-face lift is quicker than a traditional facelift.  For those with more advanced age-related concerns, the mid-facelift is sometimes combined with a traditional facelift for more complete, balanced facial rejuvenation.

What is a full facelift?

The full facelift patient is typically over the age of 50 and has experienced some age-related changes of the face and neck that simply cannot be corrected with non-surgical options.  The surgery addresses all aspects of facial aging including skin laxity of the face and neck, volume loss and when necessary, sun damage to the skin itself. The incisions are in front of the ear, behind the ear and down the hairline.  And yet, despite the length of the scar, it tends to hide exceptionally well, especially in female patients that wear their hair down.  While a mini-facelift may be the right option for some patients, the full facelift is a much more powerful operation, can achieve much for facial rejuvenation and can have a much longer-lasting result.

How can you enhance your results?

Gawley Plastic Surgery can help you enhance your mini facelift results with carefully chosen non-surgical treatments. These treatments do not add any time to your recovery period and yet, give you an enhanced result. You can choose from injectables like Botox that can eliminate the crow’s feet near the eyes and frown lines from the forehead that enhance your new cheek contours. In addition, your own fat can be used to achieve definition to areas that have lost volume. Cheeks and lips can also be augmented with fat and they also add volume to hollow areas around your mouth and eyes. These procedures when added to your facial rejuvenation create a more holistic, balanced approach.

How can you make the results last even longer?

In addition to surgical facial rejuvenation, we offer a comprehensive suite of non-surgical facial rejuvenation at our many MDSkin Lounge and MDSkin Bar locations throughout the valley.  We have done the research for you and will help guide you with a personalized plan for your skin and facial concerns.  This “skin fitness” plan lays out a schedule of maintenance treatments for you that can greatly extend the results of your surgery. This is just one example of how we are committed to you and your result not just in the short term, but for years to come.
