Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia surgery, or Male Breast Reduction, is the removal of enlarged glandular breast tissue in men

Gynecomastia in men is a condition where in which males experience the enlargement of glandular breast tissues.

It is caused by an imbalance in sex hormones, causing breast tissue to grow. Certain medications may also trigger gynecomastia. Because glandular breast tissues are the cause for gynecomastia, losing weight will not remedy the issue.

Am I a Good Candidate
for Gynecomastia Surgery?

During your consultation, our surgeons will make sure that a breast reduction can meet your goals. Common symptoms of gynecomastia include:

  • Swelling and tenderness of the breasts
  • Increased size of areolas
  • Asymmetrical chest tissue

A good candidate for this procedure is also able to withstand general anesthesia used during surgery, be a non-smoker, and have realistic expectations about what a breast lift procedure can accomplish.

Benefits of Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia surgery can help to remove excess male breast tissue for a flatter, more masculine chest. This procedure can help men feel more comfortable with their bodies and boost self-confidence, as well as alleviate tenderness.

This procedure can be done using excision, liposuction, or a combination of both. For men with ample excess fatty tissue in their breasts, liposuction may be used alone to reduce breast size. In the case that glandular tissue is the primary cause for larger breasts, excision will be used. Excision patterns will vary depending on your individual condition. In some cases, liposuction and excision may be used together to achieve a flatter chest contour.

Complimentary Procedures

Daddy Makeover

Everyone has heard of a Mommy Makeover, but a daddy makeover is also an option for men, and is comprised of a number of body procedures to help restore a man’s youthful appearance and for full-body contouring.

Procedures that can typically be combined include Gynecomastia surgery, Tummy Tuck and Liposuction, as well as other non-surgical procedures like BodyTite and Morpheus8 to achieve optimal results.

Tummy Tuck

Age, weight loss, and genetics can cause excess fat and skin to stick around in the abdominal area. A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, can help to eliminate this excess skin and fat, as well as correct weakened abdominal muscles for a tighter, slimmer abdominal appearance.

Abdominoplasty is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, but it can correct the problems which are beyond your control by:

  • Removing stubborn pockets of fat
  • Removing excess skin
  • Tightening muscles
  • Diastasis recti after pregnancy

Facial Rejuvenation

Over time our skin loses its elasticity and the effects of sun damage, environmental pollutants, and stress on the face show up in the form of wrinkles, sagging skin, deep folds, and fat deposits.

Full facial rejuvenation can turn back the clock on your appearance by as much as 10 or 15 years, effectively reversing the appearance of the aging process.

Facial rejuvenation procedures including a facelift (neck lift), endoscopic mid-face lift and brow lift removes excess skin and fat and tightens the muscles for a smoother, firmer, more youthful appearance.

Liposuction

Liposuction is used to contour the body, removing stubborn areas of fat that cannot be addressed with diet and exercise. At our office, we offer tumescent liposuction to help slim the body.

Choosing Your Procedure

During your initial consultation, one of our surgeons will evaluate the condition of your skin and your overall health. After listening to your goals and concerns, they will recommend the surgical procedures that will best achieve the results you desire.

A male breast reduction can be performed alone or in combination with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck.

Our surgeons believe it’s important for patients to be well-educated about the risks associated with any cosmetic surgery, including Gynecomastia surgery.

Recovery & Results From Gynecomastia

Following Gynecomastia surgery, you will need to wear a special compression garment to help minimize swelling and ensure optimal results. Patients should avoid lifting their arms up vertically and vigorous shoulder movements for the first couple of days. The overall recovery time will vary based on how severe your condition was and the extent of your procedure. It is important to follow our specific post-op instructions to ensure a quick and safe recovery.

At the end of the day, the natural results of a facelift procedure speak for themselves. You can see what our surgeons have achieved for other facelift patients by browsing our before-and-after gallery to get an idea of what this procedure could mean for you.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction) FAQs

Gynecomastia surgery permanently removes excess glandular breast tissue. However, it is possible for the tissue to grow back depending on the cause of your gynecomastia. it’s important to discuss your full medical history for your surgeon so they can make the best surgical recommendation for realistic results.

The only treatment for gynecomastia is surgery. While fat responds to diet and exercise, glandular tissue does not.
