Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgery to
lift, reshape and tighten the breasts

Breast lift surgery can restore the youthful shape, firmness, and placement of your breasts. Breasts that have begun to sag or have lost their firmness due to pregnancy or weight loss can be rejuvenated.

Often, a breast lift can be a more appropriate alternative to breast enlargement for women with adequate breast tissue.

Am I a Good Candidate
for Breast lift Surgery?

A breast lift can benefit any woman who has sagging breasts or whose breast skin has lost elasticity. Candidates include women who have sagging breasts due to pregnancy, weight loss, age, and genetics. A breast lift is ideal if you have ample breast tissue, but lack the shape, firmness, and/or perkiness you desire.

A breast lift can also be combined with fat grafting or breast implants to achieve your desired results. For many women, this produces the ultimate combination of increased size with desirable placement, shape, and tone. Please read our Breast Lift plus Breast Augmentation page to learn more.

Benefits of a Breast Lift

A breast lift does not add volume to your breasts, but it can make your breasts appear larger by bringing the breast tissue together. Shape, firmness, and placement can be improved. The benefits of a breast lift include, removing excess skin, lifting sagging breasts, creating firmer breasts, improving shape, and reducing areola size. During breast lift surgery, the skin below the nipple is tightened and contoured to a more desirable shape. The nipple itself is repositioned to the ideal height. The entire breast is pulled together for more lift and firmness.

Complimentary Procedures

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, removes unresponsive fat and excess skin, and tightens muscles.

Abdominoplasty is not a replacement for a healthy lifestyle, but it can correct the problems which are beyond your control by:

  • Removing stubborn pockets of fat
  • Removing excess skin
  • Tightening muscles
  • Diastasis recti after pregnancy

Liposuction

Liposuction is a very popular body sculpting procedure. Stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise can be removed from most areas of the body, giving you smoother, more desirable contours. Gawley Plastic Surgery recommends tumescent liposuction to qualifying patients.

Breast lift with implants

A breast lift can also be combined with breast implants to achieve your desired results. For many women, this produces the ultimate combination of increased size with desirable placement, shape, and tone. Please read our Breast Lift plus Breast Augmentation page to learn more.

Choosing Your Procedure

Sometimes it is hard to determine which procedure will yield the results you truly desire. During your initial consultation, we will evaluate your existing breast tissue and listen to your goals and concerns. Our surgeons will help you decide which procedure will give you the look you desire.

Recovery & Results From Breast Reduction Surgery

After your facelift procedure, you will be sent home with bandages around your incision sites to help reduce swelling and minimize bleeding. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions for what you can and cannot do immediately after surgery and in the weeks to come.

The recovery process varies from patient to patient based on the extent of the procedure and your ability to heal. In general, you will need to avoid strenuous activity for about four weeks, although many patients begin to feel like themselves a few days after their procedure.

Breast Lift FAQs

Depending on the amount of droop or skin stretch, our surgeons can sometimes perform a breast lift with a shorter scar or less scarring.

  • Concentric (donut lift)
  • Vertical (lollipop lift)
  • Standard (anchor lift)

Yes, many women choose to have a breast lift in combination with breast enlargement or as a part of a Mommy Makeover. A breast lift can also be combined with breast reduction.

No. The breast lift restores the shape, height, and firmness of sagging breasts by removing excess skin. A breast reduction removes breast tissue to make your breasts smaller, lighter, and more comfortable. Both can create firmer, shapelier breasts, but a breast reduction is usually chosen to address health problems caused by breasts which are too large and heavy.
