Breast Augmentation Incisions

The incision is made to allow the formation of the pocket for the breast implant and then the insertion of the breast implant. There are three different incisions for breast augmentation:

• Inframammary (at the breast crease)
• Periareolar (below the areola)
• Transaxillary (in the armpit)

All options have their benefits and potential drawbacks. Deciding which one is best for you depends on you, your breasts, your goals, and other decisions you make about your breast augmentation.

Choosing a Breast Augmentation Incision

The inframammary incision is the most common incision used for breast augmentation. This incision is made at the breast crease, where the breast meets the chest. It is well-concealed by the breast and by clothing, including swimsuits and underwear. If you are looking to improve uneven breasts or the shape of your breasts, this may be the best incision for you because it allows better visibility and direct working on the breast tissue. The inframammary incision is also recommended for breast augmentation with silicone breast implants.
