Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can
address your upper lids, lower lids, or both

The eyes are the first attribute we notice when we meet someone new. When you look at yourself in the mirror, you are probably more acutely aware of any subtle changes around your eyes more so than any other part of your face.

Eyelid surgery can correct the appearance of aging eyes, restoring the youthful beauty to the focal point of your face.

upper vs. lower lids

In the upper eyelids we often see drooping, sagging, and sometimes misplaced pockets of fat, distorting the natural contours and creating wrinkles and folds of skin where your eyelid was once smooth and plump. We correct this by removing an ellipse of skin and sometimes excess fat. The incision is made in the natural crease of your eyelid so there is no visible scar. The results of upper eyelid surgery are sometimes enhanced when combined with a forehead lift since drooping eyelids can originate from a heavy or drooping brow.

In the lower lid, we address bags, dark circles, and loose or wrinkled skin. We remove excess skin, remove or reposition fat, and we can tighten the muscles if needed. The results of lower eyelid surgery can be enhanced by laser skin resurfacing to rejuvenate the skin’s elasticity and restore your youthful texture. Eyelid surgery can also be combined with BOTOX® to correct fine lines, wrinkles, and crows’ feet around your eyes for a more complete look.

Benefits of a Blepharoplasty

During a Blepharoplasty, excess skin is removed and fat is either repositioned or fat grafting is used to add fat to areas. The repositioning of fat can simultaneously remove puffiness and fill hollows, restoring the youthful contours of your eyelids and correcting dark circles. Removing the excess skin and tightening muscles will smooth wrinkles and folds.

Open brow Lift

An Open Brow Lift  involves an incision across the hairline to improve and lift the brow area. Occasionally, our surgeons do perform an endoscopic brow lift, but generally advise against it can have a less long-lasting effect.

• Drooping brow
• Frown lines between the brows (11 lines)
• Skin laxity in the forehead
• Deep forehead wrinkles

Traditional Facelift

The traditional facelift addresses the lower two-thirds of your face and neck, removing excess skin and fat and tightening the muscles. The result is a smoother, firmer, more youthful appearance. A traditional facelift can correct:

•  Loose skin
•  Fat deposits
•  Creases below the lower eyelids
• Marionette (smile) lines, or creases around the mouth
• Mid-face sagging
• Jowls
• Double chin

Fat Grafting (Fat Transfer)

Transfer of fat to the face is a natural solution to achieve a more youthful look and enhance the results of facial plastic surgery procedures.

Using the patient’s own fat cells, a fat graft, or fat transfer can be used as an alternative to implants or facial fillers. By using your own natural fat cells, a subtle enhancement is achieved for long-lasting, natural results.

Endoscopic Mid-Facelift

The endoscopic facelift, also referred to as a cheek lift, is minimally invasive and virtually scarless. This method uses tiny incisions hidden in the hairline and a miniature camera to lift the cheek area. A mid facelift can correct:

• Sagging mid-face
• Sagging cheeks
• Cheek folds
• Lines around the mouth
• Jowls
• Hallowing in the lower eyelids
• Deep nasolabial folds (smile lines)

Eyelid Surgery FAQs

The results are long-lasting. Eyelid surgery will not stop the aging process, but it will set the clock back on your appearance. Any fat removal is permanent and does not grow back.

Yes, in fact, many patients choose to have eyelid surgery in combination with procedures such as a brow lift or laser skin resurfacing.

No, eyelid surgery does not address the wrinkles around your eyes, such as crows’ feet. However, you can have other procedures in combination with blepharoplasty to address these problems. Many patients choose BOTOX® as a complementary procedure to smooth crow’s feet and furrows between the eyebrows.

The incisions used in eyelid surgery are placed so that they are hidden in the natural creases of your eyes, so scarring is not visible.
