What to Expect After Breast Augmentation
Plastic Surgery in Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale and surrounding areas in Arizona
Breast augmentation does more than just increase the size of a woman’s breasts. Through breast augmentation surgery, a woman can reshape her upper body or correct breast asymmetry. For many women, the choice to have breast augmentation is delayed because they are unsure of what to expect after breast augmentation.
Once you have had your breast augmentation, you will be able to return to life like normal after about a week of rest. Some of the other things you can expect after breast augmentation include:
Boosted Self-Confidence
If you have been dealing with small, deflated, or asymmetrical breasts for years, your breast augmentation will finally give you the body contour you desire. Many women find that they are now able to wear the clothes they want and participate in the activities they have avoided in the past. For even more transformative results, some women combine their breast augmentation with tummy tuck, facelift, or liposuction procedures.
Mammograms
Depending on the location of your breast implant after your breast augmentation, you will need to find a facility that specializes in mammograms for breast augmentation patients. Dr. Gawley will be able to point you in the right direction, but maintaining your breast health is something that we encourage in all our breast augmentation patients.
Swelling
For many breast augmentation patients, it can take a few months for all the swelling in the breasts to subside. This is just a natural part of healing for many women and you should not be worried if it has been a month and your breasts feel hard or look swollen.
Complications
As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, there is a small risk of developing complications after your breast implants have been placed. By gently massaging your breasts and paying close attention to your healing progress, you will be able to spot any complications early. Things such as extensive pain, sudden loss of volume, or redness and discharge from the surgery site should all be brought to the attention of Dr. Gawley to make sure they are not signs of infection or other problems.
