Questions About Rhinoplasty
Serving Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale and surrounding areas in Arizona
What is rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is surgery to reshape your nose. Nose surgery can correct a number of problems with the size and shape of your nose including:
- Nose that is too large
- Nose that is too small
- Humps and bumps
- Nose that is too long
- Misshapen tip
- Misshapen bridge
What is the best age for nose surgery?
In most cases it is best to wait until you are at least 18 years old for any type of cosmetic surgery. In some rare cases younger patients may benefit from nose surgery.
Older patients may choose nose surgery for a more youthful appearance, and some patients develop the need for nose surgery after an injury.
Are there alternatives to nose surgery?
Sometimes alternative procedures are more appropriate. Imbalance in the profile, such as a recessed or protruding chin, can create the illusion of a nose that is too large or too small. Dr. Gawley will be able to tell you if nose surgery is the right procedure for you, and if it is not, he will recommend alternatives.
Will I have to be hospitalized for nose surgery?
No, rhinoplasty is outpatient surgery. It takes about one to two hours.
What is the recovery like?
You will experience some bruising and swelling, both of which will subside in one to two weeks. You may feel congested for about a week to ten days after surgery. Heavy activity should be avoided for at least two weeks. Sun exposure and activity which could involve bumping your nose should be avoided for at least two months.
Are the results permanent?
Yes, the results of nose surgery are permanent.
Can I have rhinoplasty in combination with other procedures?
Yes, many patients choose to have nose surgery in combination with other procedures such as a facelift or neck lift.
Will rhinoplasty leave visible scars?
The incisions are often inside of your nose and those will not leave a visible scar. Any incisions on the outside of your nose will be small and placed inconspicuously, so they will not be easily seen.
