WHAT IS A TUMMY TUCK?
A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a body enhancement procedure done to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen, as well as restore weakened abdominal muscles. Excess abdomen flab can occur due to aging, hereditary, weight fluctuations, or prior surgery. The tummy tuck procedure can help to restore a flat, tight abdominal contour.Watch Dr. Gawley Videos - Click Here
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
If you are experiencing excess belly skin and fat, or have a protruding abdomen due to weakened abdominal muscles, a tummy tuck may be able to benefit you. Ideal candidates will be healthy nonsmokers with realistic expectations for the outcomes of their procedure. It is important to understand that a tummy tuck is not a weight loss solution. A consultation with Dr. Gawley can help to determine if this procedure is right for you.
During the tummy tuck procedure, an incision will be made horizontally between the hip bones. Then, underlying weakened abdominal muscles will be repaired and excess skin and fat are removed. Incisions will be closed using sutures or skin adhesives. This procedure is commonly done on an outpatient basis, so you may be able to return home after surgery.
During recovery, you will be required to wear a compression garment to help minimize swelling and support the abdomen as it heals. Redness, bruising, and swelling is common, and any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Depending on the extent of your tummy tuck, you may also have tubes in your incision to help drain away excess fluid.
