WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction is a body sculpting procedure done to eliminate stubborn areas of fat from the buttocks, hips, love handles, thighs, calves, ankles, breasts, back, arms, and neck. This procedure can help to sculpt a more masculine body contour in men with excess fat deposits.Watch Dr. Gawley Videos - Click Here
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
If you are living with stubborn areas of fat that cannot be eliminated using diet and exercise, liposuction may be for you. Ideal candidates will be healthy, nonsmokers with good skin elasticity. Liposuction is not a weight loss solution for those who are obese. A consultation with Dr. Gawley can help to determine if this procedure can help you meet your goals.
At Gawley Plastic Surgery, we offer a selection of liposuction techniques, including SmartLipo, ultrasonic liposuction (UAL) and tumescent liposuction. The liposuction technique performed will depend on a number of factors, including your individual case, desired results, and Dr. Gawley’s recommendation. We offer the following liposuction techniques:
SmartLipo: During this technique, a laser fiber is inserted through a very small tube into the body, which works to liquefy the fat in a targeted area. This fat is then gently suctioned out. This technique can also tighten the skin through coagulation to help combat sagging skin after the treatment.
Ultrasonic Liposuction: Ultrasonic liposuction uses a special handpiece that transmits ultrasound energy to melt fat in a targeted area. This helps to loosen fat for easier removal through suction.
Tumescent Liposuction: This technique includes the use of a “wetting solution” with a local anesthetic to be injected into the targeted areas before surgery. This causes blood vessels to shrink and constrict, which minimizes blood loss and postsurgical pain.
CoolSculpting: CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved nonsurgical body sculpting procedure that uses cooling technology to freeze away fat cells. Patients with stubborn deposits of fat on the chin, upper arms, abdomen, flanks, and inner and outer thighs can often benefit from this procedure.
Following liposuction, you will wear a compression garment to help minimize swelling. The first 48 hours after surgery you will experience swelling and bruising, which will likely disappear within 7-10 days. Any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Avoid bending over and lifting heavy objects during recovery to ensure optimal results.
While results from liposuction are often long-term, patients can gain weight after their procedure, though it will probably be distributed evenly throughout the body. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help to maintain your liposuction results.
