WHAT IS A BLEPHAROPLASTY?
Loose skin can appear on both the upper and lower eyelids, giving people a tired, aged look. In some cases, excess upper eyelid skin can also impair an individual’s line of vision. A blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is done to remove excess eyelid for a more youthful appearance.Watch Dr. Gawley Videos - Click Here
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
If you are experiencing excess eyelid skin on the upper or lower eyelids that is impairing your vision or causing your eyes to look tired or sad, a blepharoplasty facial surgery may be able to help. This procedure can also help to address under eye bags and dark circles. Ideal candidates should be generally healthy with a positive attitude. Your first step towards scheduling a surgery date is to book a consultation with Dr. Gawley.
During eyelid surgery, excess skin will be removed, and fat will be repositioned to improve the appearance of puffiness or hollows. The procedure steps will vary based on if you are having an upper blepharoplasty, a lower blepharoplasty, or both. An upper blepharoplasty treats the upper eyelids. During surgery, an ellipse of skin and excess fat is removed through the natural crease of your eyelid to create a more youthful look. A lower blepharoplasty treats the lower eyelids, puffy bags, and dark circles. Excess skin and fat are removed through an incision in the lower eyelid, and muscles are tightened. When healed, blepharoplasty scars are almost undetectable, so you won’t have to worry about visible scarring.
Following eyelid surgery, you will be given ointment for your incisions and eye drops to help keep your eyes lubricated. Cold compresses can be used around the eyes to reduce swelling, and any discomfort can be controlled with pain medication. Patients will need to sleep with their head raised higher than their chest, which can be achieved with pillows or a recliner. Recovery time will vary, though many patients can resume normal activities after 10 days.
