Questions About Liposuction

Serving Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale and surrounding areas in Arizona

What can liposuction do for me?

Liposuction removes stubborn pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is a very popular and effective body sculpting procedure.

Is liposuction a good weight loss tool?

No. Liposuction is used to get rid of areas of fat which have not responded to other weight loss methods. It does not replace a healthy diet and exercise.

Is liposuction dangerous?

Any procedure will carry some risks. We minimize the risks by proper patient screening. Dr. Gawley does not recommend liposuction for patients with certain health conditions including:

  • Heart disease
  • Clotting problems
  • Diabetes
  • Poor circulation

In addition, we encourage patients to attempt to lose weight on their own before seeking liposuction.  The risks of liposuction increase in people who are obese, so it is best to try to achieve your optimum body weight before getting liposuction.

What is SmartLipo?

SmartLipo is laser-assisted body sculpting. It is the safest, most precise, and most effective liposuction technique.

Where can liposuction be used?

Liposuction can remove unwanted fat from virtually anywhere on your body. It can address large areas such as the thighs and buttocks, or very small precise pockets of fat such as those on the face or under the chin.  Small pockets respond especially well to SmartLipo.

Can I have liposuction in combination with other procedures?

Yes.  In fact, for some people liposuction is a necessary part of other procedures. Dr. Gawley often uses liposuction during a face or neck lift. You can also have liposuction to complement procedures such as a tummy tuck or breast augmentation. Liposuction is a popular choice as part of a Mommy Makeover.

Are the results of liposuction permanent?

You can maintain the results by taking good care of yourself through a healthy diet and exercise. Significant weight gain will typically show up in the same problem areas.

Are there specific requirements to qualify for liposuction?

Liposuction is appropriate for patients who are within 25 pounds of their ideal weight and whose weight is stable. You also need to be in good overall health.
