Candidacy for SmartLipo

Serving Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale and surrounding areas in Arizona

We consult with many men and women who come to our office to find out if they are candidates for SmartLipo, a form of liposuction. When determining SmartLipo candidacy, many different things are considered.

Before you make the choice to have Dr. Bryan W. Gawley, M.D. perform your SmartLipo procedure at our Phoenix, Arizona plastic surgery office, there are few things you should think about:

Medical History
Preexisting conditions and other medical problems may prevent you from being a SmartLipo candidate. Certain medical conditions and diseases can put you at additional risk of unwanted side effects after SmartLipo or complications during the SmartLipo procedure. Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, lung disease, and clotting disorders may impact your SmartLipo candidacy.

Excess Fat
SmartLipo is ideal for people who are within 25 lbs. of their ideal weight, but have pockets of fat that are resistant to exercise and dieting efforts. For these people, SmartLipo can be performed to remove this fat, providing a more slender, healthier body contour. Since SmartLipo can be performed on more delicate parts of the body, pockets of fat can be located on the face, chin, neck, and even the inner thighs.

Realistic Expectations
If you are obese or are not within reach of your ideal weight, SmartLipo may not be the best cosmetic surgery choice for you. SmartLipo is not a weight loss solution like bariatric surgery. SmartLipo is used to remove smaller areas of fat so that the body appears slimmer and healthier. If you are suffering from excess fat and skin around the abdomen, another procedure, like tummy tuck, may be better suited for you.

Skin Elasticity
A natural part of growing older is that the skin becomes thinner and loses its natural elasticity. This elasticity is the aspect of skin that allows good healing after the SmartLipo surgery. Although the laser used during the SmartLipo procedure promotes collagen production in the skin, some individuals may have skin that is too thin to be candidates for this procedure.

If you’d like to find out if you’re a candidate for SmartLipo and you live in the Scottsdale or Phoenix, Arizona area, the best thing you can do is contact Bryan W. Gawley, M.D. Aesthetic & Reconstructive Plastic Surgery to schedule an initial consultation.
