Questions About Breast Enlargement
Serving Phoenix, Scottsdale, Gilbert, Chandler, Glendale and surrounding areas in Arizona
What is the difference between silicone and saline implants?
Both types of implants have a silicone outer shell. Silicone gel implants are preferred by most doctors and women with implants because they look and feel more like natural breast tissue than saline implants. Saline implants are prefered by some patients who feel they are safer than silicone. However, both types are completely safe.
What are my implant placement options?
Your implants can be placed behind the breast tissue (subglandular) or behind the muscle (submuscular). There are many reasons for the different placement options and advantages to both.
Subglandular:
- More visible, dramatic results
- Sharper cleavage
- Shorter recovery
- Less painful
- Larger implants possible
- Best for bodybuilders
Submuscular:
- More support – less likely to sag
- More subtle, natural-looking
- Moves existing breast tissue forward
- Hides any rippling
- Good mammograms are easier to obtain
Will people be able to tell that I have had breast augmentation?
That is up to you. You can choose a subtle enlargement that will never be noticeable to strangers. But those closest to you will notice that something is different, no matter what. You can also go for very dramatic results. It all depends on the effect you desire.
How long will the procedure last?
Typically, one to two hours. It varies depending on the placement and incision options you choose.
How long will recovery take?
This will depend on several factors including:
- Amount of enlargement
- Implant placement
- Your body’s healing capacity
Most women can return to light activities in about two weeks. You should avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for at least one month. You can minimize your recovery time by following Dr. Gawley’s post-operative instructions and taking good care of yourself.
Will I have visible scars?
All surgery leaves some scarring. Incision placement will determine how visible your scars will be, but even the most visible placement is well-hidden and will allow you to wear normal clothing and bathing suits without embarrassment. Keep in mind too that scarring is partly influenced by heredity. Some scarring is thin and flat, and other scarring may be larger and redder. Dr. Gawley will use his skill to minimize scarring to the greatest extent possible.
I already have breast implants and I am not happy with them. What can I do?
Dr. Gawley performs corrective breast surgery for women who have had previous breast surgeries with poor results. Your breasts can be beautiful again.
