What to Expect After SmartLipo™

Because SmartLipo™ is less invasive than other liposuction methods, your recovery process will be simpler and significantly shorter. The improved laser technology that SmartLipo™ employs seals your blood vessels as it passes over them, minimizing bleeding during the procedure, as well as swelling and bruising after the operation.

Most SmartLipo patients will be able to leave the surgeon’s office as soon as the anesthesia wears off. You will be sent home with compression bandages and a short list of post-operative care instructions. It’s important that you follow all the instructions as closely as possible, and use the compression bandages exactly as Dr. Gawley instructs. This will help you retain the full benefits of the body contouring procedure.

Recovering from SmartLipo™

Your entire healing process will be overseen by Dr. Gawley to make sure you are recovering normally and efficiently. It is vital that you attend all of the follow-up appointments that Dr. Gawley schedules with you, as they are key to ensuring you obtain the best possible results from your SmartLipo™ procedure.

Immediately following surgery, you should allow for one to two days of rest before returning to work. Throughout your recovery process, you should carefully inspect the incision site for any signs of infection. The number one cause of post-operative scarring is infection, and it can also lead to more serious medical conditions.

Mild pain is to be expected after any surgical procedure, but your post-operative pain from SmartLipo™ should fade within two or three days. Be sure not to use any painkiller that contains blood thinners, such as aspirin. Dr. Gawley will prescribe you a safe, mild painkiller to be used when needed. You should also abstain from smoking or drinking alcohol during the initial stages of recovery, as this can compromise your healing.

Dr. Gawley may recommend that you start performing light activity or exercise at a certain point in the recovery process in order to increase circulation in the surgical area. Most of the swelling and inflammation of the treated area should be gone within a week, by which time you may return to your normal activities.
